Recently I had purchased a 16 GB memory card for my android mobile. However after a few days noticed that my phone had showed insufficient memory when I tried to install an application from playstore On checking the storage settings I had noticed that the total space is lesser than the available space. I suspected the retailer had cheated me by selling the 8 GB memory card as 16 GB but on the card it was clearly mentioned as 16 GB. So it's confirmed that either it must a bug in the android system of the memory is erratically showing the memory.
On researching I found that Some card readers or host devices are not compatible with the larger SDHC and SDXC cards. If the reader or host is not compatible with the larger capacity the card will be re partitioned to a size that is supported.
For example if your card reader or camera is compatible with a SDHC card with a maximum capacity of 32GB using this reader or camera to format a 64GB SDXC card will result in the card being re partitioned to 32GB (~27GB usable capacity). But you can restore the full capacity of the card by using the SD card formatter tool. You can download SD formatter tool from here: http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/14827/
